| Green Hill Therapy is a nonprofit organization which integrates occupational, physical and speech therapy with hippotherapy and aquatherapy, two dynamic treatment programs that address sensory-motor learning in special needs children. Our goal is simple: We want to help kids reach their full potential through proven, playful intervention.
No two children are the same, which is why Green Hill therapists develop individual treatment plans using occupational, physical and speech therapy in conjunction with hippotherapy or aquatherapy. Because therapy is just part of life for some children, we believe it is important for them to enjoy their time at Green Hill and gain greater confidence in their abilities.
Hippotherapy
We specialize in hippotherapy because we believe in the healing power of the horse. When a child receives therapy on horseback, they are exposed to more than 3,000 repetitions per half hour created by the rhythmic movements of the horse. The sensory input is key to helping kids improve neuromotor function, strength, flexibility, balance, posture, coordination and speech.
Aquatherapy
For some children, movement when immersed in water is easier to achieve than on dry land and water provides tremendous sensory input. Aquatherapy with a trained Green Hill therapist is an excellent strategy for enhancing strength, endurance and coordination. Children receive the intervention they need to improve motor function while having fun.
The facility
Green Hill is the only indoor, year-round hippotherapy facility in the Kentuckiana area. Spanning 9,800 square feet, the facility consists of a riding arena and fully equipped therapy gym. Our riding surface has been specifically designed as a “dustless” surface for our special needs clients.
